Keywords And The Use of Capital Letters
For everyone that tries to keep ahead of the search engine's algorithms, you know what a constant changing battle it is. The latest thing I have heard about is the use of capital letters in keywords. It has been stated that to have a capital letter caused search engines like Google to rank particular sites higher than ones not using them. Since being on top of the search results is our bread and butter, I decided to investigate this further by searching major keywords with and without the use of capital letters. To my surprise it did actually make a difference on the results, but not always as first stated. On some keywords it actually made the search result higher to have a non capital letter. This wasn't like you would expect regarding totally different topics, but whilst checking keywords with a similar theme.
The only conclusion I can deduce is to start adding the main keywords with both capital and non capital letters, but being careful not to end up keyword stuffing.
Keyword stuffing is the use of too many keywords, often with lots of repitition and is not looked upon favourably by major search engines. If you have lots of pages with similar themes on a site, a good idea is to experiment by having 1 or 2 keywords on each page that are more unusual. You would be surprised what some web browsers write when searching, especially if they don't know exactly what they are looking for. This is just one of many areas of constant change and we need to keep working hard to keep ahead of our competitors. |
